these are kristine gottilla handbags.

NYC can be an awfully big place sometimes, so that’s why we chose Brooklyn as our style forum. There is just so many little pieces of heaven there from the ambiance to brownstones to parks to dogs to stores. So when we happened upon kristine gottilla’s store front, we knew we had to reveal this gem to all of you.

For the past year and a half kristine has been sharing space at 242 Grand St in Wiliamsburg, with owner and jeweler Perry Gargano, where every handbag is made by hand in the back of the shop. Kristine never combines the same fabric, leather, hardware and style more than once, which makes each bag totally unique and one of a kind. She uses leathers ranging from Italian to Argentinian cowhides to lamb and aniline calf skins. The customer can choose from a variety of fabrics, hardware and leathers in the shop and orders can be made by appointment or by happenstance (fall hours are 7 days a week from 2-7pm). A portion of each bag sale is set aside for a project beginning in 2011 involving the distribution of sewing machines to young women in New Delhi.

The following description of her bags, is the ultimate indicator as to why she is a Flaxen Tawny pic:

‘My design aesthetic is for the girl who appreciates off beat details in fundamentally traditional products. Who rejects the idea of ever finding herself sitting across from someone wearing the same thing as her on the subway.’

We ! If you contact her now at http://www.kristinegottilla.com, she has graciously granted our readers 5% off on any purchase. How could one resist a one of a kind bag made distinctly for them at a discounted price when it’s the start of a new handbag season? We, clearly, can not;)
