Fashion Speak 101- applique

Our fashion speak for the day is a word who again comes from the french verb appliquer(to apply). It is pronounced ah-plee-kay, and refers to an ornament or enhancement on an item of clothing made by applying pieces of one fabric to the surface of another.
This technique is found on all types of clothing that we see daily; tee-shirts, college sweat shirts, children’s clothing, bags, etc. It’s also often used with decorative items such as lingerie and wedding gowns.

Applique is a great technique in clothing design when wanting to add a point(s) of interest while maintaining a minimal palette.
